2) Conventions of a Music Advert - Rihanna Loud

Unlike the Florence + The Machine music advertisement, this advert does not have as many conventions on it. However, I have previously studied the Rihanna - Loud digipak and it all works together very well via the choice of colour scheme and fonts.

This is the image of the artists name which is placed at the top of the music advert. It is also written in capital letters and a white font against a red background which makes it seem more appealing to the audience by drawing their attention.

This is the main image used on the music advert, which is the artist herself posed with red hair and a flower in between her fingers. The red promotes the loudness of her album and the flower could portray innocence meaning she has less upbeat songs.

This is the title of the album which is placed towards the bottom of the music advert, it is shown to be in a white font in capital letters, again like the name of the artist is. This shows a continuous schemes through the advert.

The front cover of the album is shown in the bottom right hand corner which promotes what it is going to look like, so that the audience understand what they are looking for when it comes to purchasing.

Additonal information is always great to have on a music advert to draw the audiences attention in even more, in this case it's telling us that the album is out now and also telling us what songs are on the album. If the audience like the songs this will encourage them to buy the album.

1) Conventions of a Music Advert - Florence + The Machine Lungs

I believe this music advertisement does conform to the 'normal' type of advert we would see as it has a lot of the usual conventions and gives us the information in which we need to know.

This is the release date in which is placed towards the bottom of the advert. The release date is always important to include on a music advert so that the audience know when the album is coming out and when they can purchase it.

The image used is a picture of the artist herself to show people who haven't heard of the artist know who she is and what she looks like. There is a pair of lungs placed on her body which relates to the name of the album 'Lungs'. Also the colour scheme used here is very natural and earthy with greens and pinks used, this could be portraying innocence and pureness which could reflect the songs on her upcoming album.

The name of the artist is placed at the top of the advert in a font which is consistently used by Florence + The Machine, so straight away fans know this is the artist. It is written in plain white with a black background which appears to be plain, contradicting from the picture which has a lot going on.

This is the name of the album; Lungs. It is written in capital letters to appear bold and eye-catching to the audience so they are easily able to see it. It is following the black and white font colour scheme to again show that it's plain.

Her website is shown right at the bottom of the advert to promote her as an artist and also to give the audience extra information about her and her upcoming album.

Some additional information is included in a smaller font towards the bottom of the advert, in this case it is showing us what hit singles are included, this draws in the audience as they may like the songs meaning they'll want to buy the album and listen to the rest of the songs.

The record company's label is shown in the bottom right hand corner of the advert to show who the artist is signed to and to also promote the record company. Florence + The Machine is signed to 'Moshi Moshi Records'. Moshi Moshi Records is a small London based record label founded by Adrian Pike, Michael McClatchey and Stephen Bass. They have also signed music artists such as Kate Nash and Disclosure.

Music Video Locations

In order to shoot my music video I chose two different locations, one for the actual story line and one for the performance. I chose an outside space for the story line to show where the homeless man lives. For my performance part of my video, I used a rehearsal room to try and set the scene to be quite casual and informal as this is what I have intended for my video to turn out like.

This is where I shot my outside filming...

And this is where I shot the performance...

Prop Research Ideas

For the performance part of my music video, I will be showing a band performing the song, therefore the props that will be needed include; a drum kit, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, microphones and microphone stands.

For the narrative part of my music video I won't actually be using any props as it will all be filmed outside and I will only be asking my actor to have a set costume.

Costume Research Ideas

For the performance part of my video, I will be asking the band to wear 'casual' clothing as I want my video to appear casual as this is what alternative rock people usually dress like anyway when they perform for an audience.

Some alternative rock bands include; Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foofighters, Green Day and Coldplay. For inspiration I researched into what some of these bands would wear if they were to perform for a live audience. Here are some of the images I found...

As I expected to see, these bands are dressed fairly casual, not smart or in anyway 'done up' and are also wearing black clothing. From looking at these images I have decided I am going to ask my band to wear 'plain' colours, nothing too bright or anything that would particularly stand out. I will be asking the boys to wear plain t-shirts, with black or dark coloured jeans with trainers/converse. For the girl I will be asking her to wear either a plain t-shirt with dark coloured leggings/jeans or a dark coloured dress with plain pumps/docs/converse.

For the narrative part of my video, I will be asking my actor to wear ragged clothes, nothing that looks too smart or 'done up'. I will be asking him to wear either an oversized hoodie or a piece of oversized clothing for the top half, however it will have to look warm due to him living on the streets and dark/black jeans with any pair of shoes.

Communication

These are just some of the Facebook messages I exchanged with my actors/actresses when asking if they were able to film for my music video.

Health & Safety Grid

There are possible hazards in which could occur when filming for my music video therefore I have created a health and safety grid to ensure I know how likely these hazards are and what to do if the hazard were to actually happen. I will be filming outside and also in a music venue.
