This is my first music video draft I have produced for my Media Studies mock exam. In order to film this I used a Sony Handycam CX250 Full HD Camcorder. This was the first time I had used this camera but I found it very easy to use and navigate around. To edit I used the Final Cut Pro software on a iMac computer.
This is what my screen looked liked once I had finished editing my footage.
I chose to consistently use a black and white filter throughout all my video shots to create a more saddening mood, because of my basic knowledge in Final Cut Pro, I had to find things out for myself such as changing the filter and how to change the speed of my videos as I wanted them to be all slow motion. In my first clip I customised the speed rate to 80%, in my second clip I changed the speed rate to 30% and in my final three clips I changed these to 50%. I slowed down every single clip I had as I wanted the video to feel more emotional and for the audience to actually take in what is going on in the scene. Adding slow motion also makes the clip more tense and dramatic and this is the look I was going for due to my song having a gloomy and despairing feel to it.
To add effect to my video and make it more interesting I also used transitions. From my first clip to my second I used the 'Cross Disolve' transition to make it flow better and not just have a straight, blunt cut. Then I also used another transition called 'Zoom' at the end of the clip, I really liked this transition as it's almost like we are zooming in to the actors eyes so we can see how he really feels and just how dismal his eyes appear.
To make sure I had the perfect takes for my music video, I shot 9 different scenes to see in the end which one would look best and how they fitted together. My shots were fairly similar however I slightly changed some things in the videos for example the pace of the walking or how my actor was stood.
Looking at the images below, I tried to stick to my storyboard as well as possible and I believe throughout I have apart from the last 7/8 seconds when I chose to cut out the scene of people laughing and turned it into an extreme close up shot of my actor as I believed this portrayed his emotions more and it engages the audience as they feel he is looking directly at them, making them want to carry on watching the video.
In this clip I said that I would pan my camera to the right showing the scenery of where the homeless man is living, in my actual footage I successfully carried this out.
In my storyboard I said I was going to perform a tracking shot of the man roaming the streets, looking back to see where he is and in my actual footage I did this.
In my storyboard I said I would film my actor with his head held in his hands in despair as he knows his life is bad which I did in my actual footage. However for the extreme close up, I used this towards the end of my music video draft as shown in the next picture.
I said I would be filming a medium close up of a group of people laughing at the homeless man, however in my actual footage I chose to film two slightly different extreme close up shots of my actor to show his emotions and pain.
